Daniel J Downes

Dan Downes has practiced law for over 40 years, representing the seriously injured.  While working as a detective on the Chicago Police Department he attended Loyola Law School and graduated with a Juris Doctorate degree in 1972.

Dan concentrates his practice on representing seriously injured persons with special emphasis and attention to injured railroad employees under the Federal Employers’ Liability Act, 45 U.S.C. Sec 51, and the Whistleblowers Act, Federal Rail Safety Act 49 U.S.C. Section 201.09.  He represents injured clients throughout the Midwest and has earned the privilege of being Designated Legal Counsel for the American Train Dispatchers Association, the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employees, the Brotherhood of Railroad Signalmen, and SMART/UTU.

His law firm, Daniel J. Downes, P.C. merged with James M. Ridge & Associates, P.C., in 2013, creating Ridge & Downes. The merger established a law firm that was able to represent a broad range of people injured while working.

Dan is licensed to practice law in Illinois, Minnesota, Nebraska, and several United States District Courts, as well as before the United States Supreme Court.  Dan is a member in good standing of the Illinois Bar Association, the Minnesota Bar Association, the Nebraska Bar Association, and is a past President of the Academy Rail Labor Attorneys.

He lives on the Northwest side of Chicago with his wife, Ellen. He is the proud father of Meghanne, who is also an attorney.
